I have chosen to become an authority in the subject of creating value. I believe that if you fail to create value for others you will fail to get paid for what you do. This new book will be controversial because I challenge many of the assumptions that are frequently repeated by our fellow pharmacists.  These assumptions are provably incorrect.

I call this the Field of Dreams method.  Unfortunately we have done a great job of developing clinical skills and yet our top trained clinicians frequently don’t get paid better than anyone else. The problem is not the clinical training. We have done a poor job of marketing our value to stakeholders.

Health System Practice is the Best use of a PharmD

Again clinically this may be true but financially it is not so clear. Only 20 % of all pharmacists practice in health system. And the goal of our new healthcare drivers is to keep people out of the hospitals. So why don’t we find ways to locate our highly trained clinicians in to community based locations? That is where all the patients are.

Clinical Skill will make you a Successful pharmacist.

Again I beg to differ. In my 40 years experience the people who get more pay and benefits are the one with the better business skills. Building equity in an income producing asset build time freedom and practice freedom. Trading dollars for hours produces long days and tired pharmacists.

The key to financial independence is the ability to produce income producing assets that produce income whether you devote time or not.

Therefore, I am hoping this book can convince the 10-15% of pharmacists who “get it” to get off their duff and develop their own income streams.
